Academically Susan comes from an Art background, but her career has focused entirely on kitchen design. In 1978 she took her first steps in the industry and worked for a variety of interior design studios, contributing to both residential and commercial projects.
Even prior to working with the company, Susan had been keenly aware of bulthaup, seeing it as a brand of aspiration.
Now one of our most experienced designers, Susan believes that good design means being curious about, and open to, change in the world around her.
So she looks beyond the industry for artistic fuel, with ever-evolving London itself an endless source of inspiration. Susan is also receptive to fashion, architecture, art and travel experience as influences. These combine to produce an eclectic individual style, where functionality is prioritised and mixed with simple classic lines and personal pieces, such as family antiques.
The designer chose to incorporate different styles when working on a memorable project, involving the design of a kitchen and family space within a large, gallery room. With clever use of space and seamless integration of a wine store and kitchen equipment, the area was built around a central cooking zone, while providing ample space for furnishings.
"The contrast of styles worked by using the classic sculptural design of bulthaup against the detail of the building; the witty lighting and clients own furniture."
Susan believes future design will favour the use of sustainable resources. In addition, the development of revolutionary kitchen devices will add up to unprecedented functionality, making life easier and returning to us some of that most precious commodity - time.
